An aspiring National Women’s Organiser of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Mrs Mary Ankomah Boakye Boateng, has promised to inject dynamism, resources and time in to reorganising the women’s branch of the party.<\/p>\n
She said for the party to be visible in all parts of the country and attractive to a greater number of electorate, it required a women’s organiser who is credible, ingenious, experienced in political mobilisation and imbued with integrity .<\/p>\n
Mrs Boateng, a former National Convention Party (NCP) Member of Parliament for Mpoho-Wassa East and Gender and Development consultant said she had decided to vie for the position to be able to strengthen the national women groups’ structures and ultimately make the CPP more attractive to a greater number of the electorate.<\/p>\n
Mrs Boateng, who is a former CEO of Golden Star oil Palm Plantations and the current Managing Director of RICANCO Company Ltd, noted that it was on record that she had contested all her parliamentary seats in the Fourth Republic without a dime from the party.<\/p>\n
She promised to replicate her resourcefulness in mobilising the means and logistics in organising women in the party.<\/p>\n
She said the CPP had not been able to make any headway in recent elections because although most Ghanaians believed in its good policies and programmes, they perceived it as not strong enough to win elections.<\/p>\n
According to the former MP, a look at the current Ghanaian political terrain indicated that most Ghanaians exercised their franchise not on issues but rather on perception.<\/p>\n
That, she said required that the party elected into office, a hardworking and dedicated leadership who would be able to embark on a sustained rebranding and campaign to ensure that ‘it is visible at the nooks and cranny of the country’.<\/p>\n
With a Post-Graduate Certificate in Women and Economic Advancement from the University of Hannova, Germany, she said there was no way the women’s wing of the CPP should be dormant, because even before the United Nations and other international organisations dreamt of affirmative action, the CPP under Dr Kwame Nkrumah had started empowering women to play active and leading roles in both party and national activities.<\/p>\n
She expressed worry at the rate at which those who did not win after every CPP national congress, abandoned the party, especially the presidential and parliamentary candidates and appealed to such people to demonstrate to the electorate that they did not join the race for their personal interest but the development of the party.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
