The Member for Parliament (MP) for Jomoro, Ms Samia Yaaba Nkrumah has said her intention to stake a claim to the national chairman position of the party was to revive the Nkrumaist tradition in the country.<\/p>\n
She said the dwindling fortunes of the tradition in the country implied that those who have paraded themselves as Nkrumaists since the dawn of the Fourth Republic have not done enough to re-establish the tradition.<\/p>\n
Speaking in an interview in Accra, Ms Nkrumah said the number of Nkrumaist parties on the country’s political scene seemed to suggest that people have other motives rather than protecting and projecting what her father stood for.<\/p>\n
She said the outcome of presidential and parliamentary elections since 1992 indicated that in their present fragmented state, it will be very difficult for any party of the tradition to win national election.<\/p>\n
Ms Nkrumah said it was sad that parties which claim ancestry to the Nkrumaist tradition had been registering nominal figures in national elections under the Fourth Republic.<\/p>\n
She said in parliamentary election, parties of the Nkrumaist political stable had not been able to win even 10 seats; a situation which had made it a laughing stock in the country.<\/p>\n
Ms Samia said the electorate do not take the Nkrumaist parties serious in their present fragmented and dismembered state and also in a situation where leading members were not united.<\/p>\n
She said the electorate might respond to the calls of Nkrumaist parties to vote for them massively in the national election if they drop their differences and unite under one political machinery with a human-centred agenda.<\/p>\n
‘It is only a united, cohesive Nkrumaist front which will be able to win political power in the country and implement genuine egalitarian policies for the well-being of the people,’ she said.<\/p>\n
She said the greatest tribute that she could pay her departed father was to take up the mantle of leadership in the CPP in a bid to unite Nkrumaist parties in the country.<\/p>\n
‘ I know the task I have set for myself is fraught with unforeseen challenges but with determination, fortitude and hard work, my efforts will be crowned with success,’ she pointed out.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
