The Effutu Municipal Director of the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Mr Richmond Mensah has noted that in developing the culture of democracy Ghanaians need the courage to resist human rights violations.<\/p>\n

Mr Mensah was speaking at the launch of the Constitutional week celebration of Effutu Municipality in Winneba, organised by the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE).<\/p>\n

It was on the theme: \u201cThe state of Democracy in Ghana-2011.\u201d<\/p>\n

He stressed the need for the authorities to encourage political partnership, mutual accommodation and tolerance and concentrate on delivering social policies.<\/p>\n

Mr Mensah observed that the state of Ghana\u2019s democracy called for the credible performance of the Judiciary and the justice system, the operation of the political parties and the fight against the broad spectrum of public perception of corruption in the society.<\/p>\n

He said the celebration of the constitutional week by the NCCE made the people to understand the 1992 Constitution and to know their rights and responsibilities.<\/p>\n

Mr Mensah said democracy could only grow when there was good governance and rule of law, respect of human right, transparency, accountability and probity.<\/p>\n

He therefore urged the people to work around these cardinal points to help protect and deepen the country\u2019s democracy.<\/p>\n

The Municipal Co-ordinating Director, Mr John Kofi Kussachin stressed the need for Ghanaians to be well-informed about the Constitution to enable them execute their civic rights and responsibilities to support the government in the development of the country.<\/p>\n

He said the Constitution was a \u201cvital tool\u201d, which the people must understand to guide them to contribute their quota to the development efforts.<\/p>\n

The Co-ordinating Director urged the NCCE to make the abridged version of the Constitution available and at a reduced price to people wishing to obtain a copy.<\/p>\n

Mr Robert Collins Annan, Municipal Director of the NCCE said the constitutional was designed for the people to take stock of the country\u2019s democratic dispensation and offer suggestions to improve on the process.<\/p>\n

He said inadequate funding was the major challenge facing his outfit, a situation he described as undermining the execution of his office.<\/p>\n

He therefore appealed to NGOs, philanthropists and well-wishers in Central Region to come to the aid of the NCCE to enable the personnel to discharge their duties effectively towards the growth of the nation.<\/p>\n
