\nDavid Gill said United would look to get their business done early and the Premier League champions have flown out of the traps by committing \u00a336.6m on Phil Jones and Ashley Young.<\/p>\n

After years of frugal spending under the Glazer ownership, the purse strings have been loosened for Sir Alex Ferguson to build a squad that can challenge Barcelona as the best team in Europe.<\/p>\n

Young and Jones will certainly strengthen the United squad but the next signing will be their most important to date, with David De Gea set to be confirmed as the club’s new No.1 to replace Edwin Van der Sar.<\/p>\n

That leaves just one more piece of business to do in the remaining two months of the window \u2013 a central midfielder to replace Paul Scholes \u2013 and it will prove the most difficult and the most expensive.<\/p>\n

United made an enquiry for Tottenham’s Luka Modric in May but accept it is extremely unlikely they will sign the Croatian so are instead focussing their attention on a \u00a330m-plus swoop for Inter playmaker Wesley Sneijder.<\/p>\n

Given United’s weakness in central midfield, the club’s fans will not view the transfer window as a success until a top quality player is signed to fill the position.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Top priority should be Modric or Sneijder – Joshua Andrews<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
