{"id":448001,"date":"2011-06-26T23:27:27","date_gmt":"2011-06-26T23:27:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/06\/26\/bombings-be-vigilant-naval-officers-told\/"},"modified":"2011-06-26T23:27:27","modified_gmt":"2011-06-26T23:27:27","slug":"bombings-be-vigilant-naval-officers-told","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/06\/26\/bombings-be-vigilant-naval-officers-told\/","title":{"rendered":"Bombings: Be vigilant, Naval officers told"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"106\">\n<p><strong><em>\u2026 as AISSON holds counter-terrorism confab<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>By Emma Nnadozie and\u00a0 Albert Akpor<br \/>LAGOS\u2014THE Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogbo, weekend, in Lagos,\u00a0 charged men and officers of the Command to be vigilant in order to checkmate activities of unscrupulous elements in the society.<\/p>\n<p>The Naval Chief spoke at the end of the first bi-annual inspection of naval facilities within the command, following the spate of violence, especially bombing in parts of the country.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cI have spoken about commitment to duty, training and curbing illegalities in our area of responsibility.\u00a0 I hope we will keep all these at the back of our mind.\u00a0 Again, let me remind you all to be more security conscious, especially with the recent bombings in some parts of the country by some unscrupulous elements.\u00a0 You must remain vigilant at all times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince the beginning of the incumbent chief of naval staff, we have carried out two exercises, Farri wata and Nemo, both in the western and eastern naval commands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>AISSON holds counter-terrorism confab<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Disturbed by the spate of terrorist activities in the country, the Association of Industrial Security and Safety Practitioners of Nigeria, AISSON, is organising a security conference at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, NIIA, Lagos, June 30, to provide skills in counter-terrorism to members of the public.<\/p>\n<p>The conference, which has the theme \u201cCombating Terrorism in Nigeria ,\u201d would be chaired by the former Inspector-General of Police, Alhaji Musiliu Smith.<\/p>\n<p>Speakers in the security and diplomatic sectors have indicated interest in the event.<\/p>\n<p>According to a statement by the National President of AISSON, Dr. Ona Ekhomu, the Special Guest at the occasion is the United States Consul General in Nigeria , Hon.\u00a0 Joseph Stafford.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The\u00a0 National Security Adviser, Gen. Owoye Azazi is expected to speak on \u201cCreating Synergy among National Security Agencies in the Fight against Terror in Nigeria.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Director-General, Inter-Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA) will speak on \u201cNew Approaches in the Regional Fight against Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>While Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs Professor Bola Akinterinwa will speak on \u201cFostering International Cooperation in the War on Terror.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other speakers include d Mike Ejiofor and\u00a0 Dr. Ona Ekhomu<\/p>\n<p>Recall that in June last year, AISSON held a similar conference in June last year where security stakeholders in aviation, banking, ports security and the police were in attendance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Comments are moderated.
