Armed soldiers yesterday morning mounted a road block at Nyanya to check vehicles, especially those coming from other states to Abuja.<\/p>\n

The soldiers, who came in a truck, put barriers on the road to stop motorists and stood at strategic places to monitor as well as search cars from morning till evening.<\/p>\n

The search caused severe traffic jams in the area, which saw commercial motorists hiking their fares by 100 percent, thereby leaving most commuters stranded.<\/p>\n

Other smart drivers maneuvered their way inside Nyanya federal housing estate and came out at the NNPC Mega Station in the area in order to beat the check point and proceed with their journey.<\/p>\n

Our reporters learnt that a security meeting involving service chiefs was held at Mogadishu Barracks, Asokoro, Abuja Friday morning, where it was decided to introduce \u2018security physical presence\u2019 in roads to reassure residents of the federal capital territory.<\/p>\n

Residents of the territory were scared over speculations that bombs will be detonated in some churches at the weekend, which made policemen and other uniformed officials to maintain security at church gates, while anti terrorist\u2019s policemen were stationed at traffic junctions to conduct searches on suspicious vehicles.<\/p>\n

At the Force Headquarters Friday, policemen with bomb detector machines conducted searches on vehicles going into the premises including police cars, while visitors stood afar from the gate and were allowed in after strict scrutiny.<\/p>\n

A resident of Garki, Linus, said immediately an SMS was communicated to him through phone about bombs planted in churches, he immediately moved his family from Holy Trinity Church, Maitama and took them home.<\/p>\n

Uche, a member of Living Faith Church, also said he received the message and decided not to go to church.<\/p>\n

Divisional Police Officers of districts within the city centre were seen going around their areas to reassure residents of their safety.<\/p>\n

At Garki, Chief Superintendent Adejo Tony Olofu, said they were patrolling to ensure that everything is alright. He called on residents of the area to immediately inform the police of any suspicious characters or movements in their areas.<\/p>\n

Chief Superintendent Usman Umar of Utako, said patrols were made to Churches and Mosques to ensure that residents, who go there, feel secured.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe police are here to serve residents better and we plead with the public to help give information so that the police will serve them better.\u201d<\/p>\n

When contacted, FCT Police Spokesman, Superintendent Jimoh Moshood, said the police received text messages in the early hours of Sunday morning that bomb blasts will rock churches today.<\/p>\n

He said the FCT police commissioner gave directives to all area commanders and divisional police officers to increase adequate securities, not only in Churches but in Mosques too, adding that nothing has happened so far.<\/p>\n
