Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, has warned that he would not hesitate to dethrone any recognized traditional ruler in the state found to be engaging in partisan politics or residing away from his domain.<\/p>\n

Okorocha read the riot act at Multi Purpose Hall, Government House, Owerri while swearing in the reconstituted leadership of the State Council of Traditional Rulers.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny traditional ruler found to be engaging in partisan politics or residing away from his domain would be summarily dethroned\u201d, Okorocha warned.<\/p>\n

The Governor, who was particularly irked that the dignity and respect of the royal fathers have been greatly reduced in the state as a result of their participation in partisan politics, however vowed to flush out the bad eggs among the royal fathers.<\/p>\n

He reminded royal fathers that he has respect for the traditional stool, adding that he expects royal fathers to respect their position in society and distance themselves from partisan politics.<\/p>\n

The Governor tasked traditional rulers to choose between living and discharging their responsibilities to their people and living outside their domain and getting sacked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can no longer afford the luxury of desecrating the traditional stool. Our traditional rulers are no longer in bondage. They should feel free to discharge their roles in their communities and this is part of the rescue mission of this administration\u201d, Okorocha said.<\/p>\n

Vanguard recalls that the traditional ruler of Obi Orodo, Eze Sam Ohiri, was named Chairman of the State Council of Traditional Rulers, while the three zonal chairmen are Eze Emmanuel Okeke, Orlu Zone, Eze Chiadi Okoro, Owerri Zone and Eze Matthew Onweni, Okigwe Zone.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
