While the stage is set again for the members of the Association of Movie Producers, AMP, to elect a new executives that will pilot the affairs of the association for the next two years, ace filmmaker and social critic, Mr. Zik Zulu Okafor has unveiled his plans to vie for the topmost position of the association.\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The incumbent president of the association, Mr. Paul Obazele is expected to vacate office in August, this year, after piloting the affairs of the producers\u2019 body for two consecutive times.<\/p>\n

In what looked like an informal session with the key members of the association, last Monday, at the popular celebrity hangout, O\u2019jez, in Surulere, Lagos, Mr. Okafor expressed his unreserved desire to take AMP to the next level, if he is voted into office.<\/p>\n

In his declaration speech, he said \u201cas I make my intention to lead AMP today, I make bold to say that eight years from now, Nollywood producers will not be talking about houses or cars. We will be talking about Nollywood producers in high profile government positions, helping to churn out policies to accelerate growth of the motion picture industry. We will be talking about producers engaging in strategic partnership with Hollywood and Bollywood, to produce movies with Hollywood actors and Bollywood actors featuring in our films.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Okafor, if he voted into office, as the next president of AMP, he would strive to establish an AMP library that will serves as a resource centre in the industry, in addition to tackling the twin problems of piracy and poor distribution network, fostering peace and unity as well as raising bar in the industry.<\/p>\n

Also, speaking at the occasion which had the big names in the industry in attendance, the Director-General of the Zik Zulu campaign train, Mr. Fidelis Duker said, AMP members are shopping for a credible candidate that will take over the reins of power from their outgoing president, Mr. Obazele whose tenure will expire in August, adding that \u201cthe industry needs a paradigm shift, and that Mr. Okafor possesses what it takes to lead the association. \u201d<\/p>\n

Indeed, AMP members who graced the occasion unanimously endorsed Okafor\u2019s ambition to become the next president of the association. They included the outgoing vice-president of the association, Mrs. Lilian Aluko, top producer, Chico Ejiro, Fred Amata, Fidelis Duker, Ejike Asiegbu, Emeka Ossai and Franca Brown. Others were Teco Benson, Francis Onwochei, President of the Director\u2019s Guild, Bon Emeruwa, Chidi Nwokobia and president of the Film and Video Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria, Emma Isikaku amongst others. Meanwhile, the outgoing president , Mr Obazele was conspiciously absent at the gathering.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
