Freetown \u2014 Lead sponsors of the Sierra Leone Premier League, Africell mobile company, has announced that the eventual winner of the 2011 league season will collect the sum of Le15 million cash while the runner-up will walk away with Le7.5 million.<\/p>\n

As the 2011 league season approaches its final stage with less than 12 games to go in all, Africell alongside their associate sponsors Mercury International has decided to officially release the prize at stake with four teams having their eyes firmly fixed on the prize and the championship crown.<\/p>\n

Africell’s corporate affairs officer, Joe Abass Bangura, said aside the total sum of Le22.5 million for both winners, there are other cash prizes and certificates to go as individual awards to the highest goal scorer, best goalkeeper, best defender, best midfielder and the best coach.<\/p>\n

“As usual like Sierra Leone’s football superman to the rescue, even though it was not initially budgeted for, Africell agreed to salvage the one-round league for a direct cost of Le100 million, but other related costs including printing of tickets, advertising, medals, trophy and prizes exceeded another Le100 million, thus bringing the total sponsorship cost to more than Le200 million,” Bangura said.<\/p>\n

He also revealed that the closing ceremony of the league will be followed by an award ceremony on July 17 at the National Stadium, which will include an exhibition match between Western Area combined and Provincial combined.<\/p>\n

Bangura went on to recognize the input of associate sponsor, Mercury International and thanked Africell subscribers for their support, adding that they are making it possible for the company to support the game in the country.<\/p>\n

On behalf of Mercury International, Sallieu Kamara – who is also a member of the Premier League Board (PLB) – said the sports betting company has pledged their allegiance to continue their sponsorship of the Sierra Leone Premier League and are ready to partner with others to move the league forward.<\/p>\n

John Konteh, who also represented the PLB, said the board is determined to ensure the league becomes a nationally recognized brand. He applauded the media for their work in promoting the league.<\/p>\n
