The education sector received a boost, Friday,\u00a0 as Alofos Science and Technology Foundation announced the setting up of a Science Centre in Lagos as an avenue for the display of cutting edge invention and interactive platforms in Science and Technology.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the inaugural lecture which attracted students and teachers from over fifty secondary schools in Lagos, Dr Yemi Sofola noted that there are over 350 Science Centres in the world but none in West Africa sub-region adding that the event is being organised as a forum for effective take-off of the Foundation.<\/p>\n

She said that the innovation will stimulate public interest in science and technology especially among young Nigerians.<\/p>\n

To achieve the objectives, Sofola reiterated that lectures on topical issues will be made available for students to broaden their horizon and make arrangement for students to visit science and technology centres abroad.<\/p>\n

To Professor Soga Sofola, the innovation if taking seriously by our youths will further assist our country\u00a0 to achieve the vision 20:2020.<\/p>\n

Professor Ibidapo Obe in his good will message lamented the low interest our youths have for science and technology saying: \u201dWe have less than twenty per cent students who registered for science subjects in JAMB on yearly basis while eighty per cent registered in business and social sciences subjects.\u201d He, however urged our youths to develop interest in science and technology as this is what can bring development to our great country<\/p>\n

The Royal Father of the day, HRM Oba Riliwan Akiolu, Oba of Lagos did the unveiling of the Alofos Science and Technology Foundation logo.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
