{"id":446997,"date":"2011-06-24T10:36:21","date_gmt":"2011-06-24T10:36:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/06\/24\/nationhood-campaign-still-in-starting-blocks\/"},"modified":"2011-06-24T10:36:21","modified_gmt":"2011-06-24T10:36:21","slug":"nationhood-campaign-still-in-starting-blocks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/06\/24\/nationhood-campaign-still-in-starting-blocks\/","title":{"rendered":"Nationhood Campaign Still in Starting Blocks"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"45.20086448\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.namibian.com.na\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/allafrica.com\/img\/static\/publishers\/minibanners\/namibian180.jpg\" alt=\"The Namibian (Windhoek)\" title=\"Visit The Namibian (Windhoek)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Nico Smit<\/p>\n<p>23 June 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>The Nationhood and National Pride (NHNP) campaign is aimed at forging a stronger national identity and sense of purpose to encourage Namibians to overcome collective challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the opening of a workshop on the NHNP campaign yesterday, Information Deputy Minister Stanley Simataa said the idea of the campaign was developed by Cabinet in 2006 to address problems of vandalism, crime, violence and poor sanitation.<\/p>\n<p>According to Simataa these problems are a consequence of &#8220;apathy towards the authority and lack of sense of ownership of public resources among Namibians&#8221;. This prompted the development of the initiative to enhance a sense of nationhood and national pride in all Namibians, Simataa said.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop brought together people from civil society, non-governmental organisations, Government, state-owned enterprises and the private sector. The aim of the workshop was to review the draft plan to enhance nationhood and national pride, as well as to develop a draft strategic plan on the NHNP campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Simataa identified a number of reasons why the initiative is regarded as important by President Hifikepunye Pohamba.
