ABEOKUTA \u2014 South-West Governors, yesterday, were absent at the Ikenne meeting of the Yoruba Unity Forum, just as the forum called on President Goodluck Jonathan to ensure that the Yoruba nation occupy its rightful position in the political hierarchy of the country.<\/p>\n

In a statement at the end of the meeting in the home of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the forum decried a situation where the Yoruba race was completely schemed out of top political positions in the Jonathan\u2019s administration and urged the president to \u201cremember that the race voted for him and not his party.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an apparent reaction to the loss of Speakership of the House of Representatives to Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, the forum condemned alleged role played by some politicians in the South-West, blaming it on lack of unity among members of House of Representatives from the Yorubaland.<\/p>\n

Lambasts Sam Omatseye<\/p>\n

The Forum also condemned a newspaper article written by a columnist, Sam Omatseye, where it claimed the Awolowo immediate and political family was humiliated, describing the article as an attempt \u201cto desecrate the cherished heritage of the Yoruba people.
\u201cThe Forum\u00a0condemned the vituperation of Sam<\/p>\n

Omatseye, concerning the Awolowo family and considered it an insult on the Yoruba race, adding: \u201cThe haughty and unapologetic posture of Omatseye and his sponsors since the infamous publication was even more offensive and irritating and warned\u00a0 that only God and the people can confer leadership on any individual and not his wealth,\u201d the forum added.<\/p>\n

The Forum under the chairmanship of Bishop Ayo Oladigbolu, had in attendance royal fathers including Oba Adedapo Aderemi, the Alaye of Mowe, Olojudo of Ido Osun who led other prominent traditional leaders\u00a0 on behalf of the Oni of Ife.<\/p>\n

Others that attended included Gen. Oladipo Diya, (rtd), Koforola Bucknor-Akerele, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, Oyo State former deputy governor, Alhaji Taofeeq Arapaja, among others.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
