AS the nation mourns the gallant leader Frederick Chiluba, citizens should cast aside differences in all spheres of life and accord a dignified funeral to the man who offered distinguished service to this country and the African continent.<\/p>\n

In this time of sorrow, the Church, political parties, and other organisations should offer wise guidance and encouragement to the family, friends, and the nation at large so that the procession can continue peacefully and in a dignified manner.<\/p>\n

While some people may maliciously attempt to divert attention, well-meaning citizens should seek God’s guidance for in Him we have abundant grace and blessings which cannot be swallowed in evil activism.<\/p>\n

It is important therefore that the Church has risen above denominational divide and embraced all in prayer including brothers and sisters, who have taken an unholy stance.<\/p>\n

It is in the Church that people should seek solace in time of sorrow and in time of joy.<\/p>\n

The Church, as a body of Christ, has thus far offered spiritual guidance and encouragement.<\/p>\n

It is our appeal to those who are still stuck on the wrong podium to open their eyes and tag along with genuine mourners.<\/p>\n

President Banda has demonstrated mature leadership as is expected of a Head of State serving citizens including those in the opposition parties who jump at every occasion to attract undue attention.<\/p>\n

In his message to the Zambia Episcopal Conference, the president has rightly advised all the citizens to reflect on the achievements of the great trade unionist, human rights activist, and political leader who throughout his life dedicated his energies towards serving humanity.<\/p>\n

Dr Chiluba rose above unimaginable barriers to become leader at the highest level in the country.<\/p>\n

As human, he may have had some shortcomings in the line of duty but such should not be a point of emphasis at this particular time.<\/p>\n

This is not the time to inflict more pain on the grieving family and friends, but time to console them as only God Himself will define their destiny and life after the death of a dependable pillar.<\/p>\n

Outspoken political leaders and activists in their own right should for now tone down and allow the nation to mourn the leader.<\/p>\n

Surely, who would in this time of sorrow enjoy political comedy from brothers and sisters who have decided to depart from the right course of human conduct?<\/p>\n

It is only in God that we believe the nation can draw strength and remain on course.<\/p>\n

Through the Church, we shall unite!<\/p>\n
