{"id":446339,"date":"2011-06-23T14:55:29","date_gmt":"2011-06-23T14:55:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/06\/23\/nigeria-afn-hikes-prize-money\/"},"modified":"2011-06-23T14:55:29","modified_gmt":"2011-06-23T14:55:29","slug":"nigeria-afn-hikes-prize-money","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/06\/23\/nigeria-afn-hikes-prize-money\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria: AFN Hikes Prize Money"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"37.5612398435\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vanguardngr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/allafrica.com\/img\/static\/publishers\/minibanners\/vanguard180.jpg\" alt=\"Vanguard (Lagos)\" title=\"Visit Vanguard (Lagos)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>By Johnbosco Agbakwuru<\/p>\n<p>22 June 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>Calabar \u2014 Athletics Federation of Nigeria has categorized and hiked winnings at the Cross-River All Nigeria Championships beginning this week at the U.J Esuene Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>AFN president, Solomon Ogba who disclosed this in Calabar said that the three-day event will witness a lot of innovation and improvement on prize monies to make it more attractive.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the events to be competed for have been categorized into two, the premium and classic events, explaining that the amount for the premium event has been increased to N100, 000 for gold winners, N75, 000 for silver and N50, 000 for bronze medals as against the N50, 000, N30, 000, and N20, 000 respectively in the past.<\/p>\n<p>For the classic event, gold winner goes home with N75, 000, silver gets N50, 000 while bronze winner goes home withN30,000.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have also improved on the standard. We decided to depart from the past where it looked like inter-house sports.<\/p>\n<p>We decided to put standard that only the best can come out and pick the medals. We have also introduced entertainment because entertainment and sports go together&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Over 500 foreign based and local athletes are expected to participate in the Championships where Nigeria will select athletes that will represent the country at the World Championships and All Africa Games.<\/p>\n<p>The Cross River State Government is sponsoring the competition for the next five years will cost the state government N250 million.
