Seamus Coleman<\/a> as a full-back and plans to deploy him as such this coming season.<\/p>\nColeman\u2019s breakthrough 2010-11 campaign saw him win the club\u2019s Young Player of the Season award as well as being nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Season title, all while filling in on the right of midfield while more established players were injured.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have still got to see whether he can cope as a full-back in the Premier League, what we can say is that he can play as a winger if we need him,\u201d Moyes told the club\u2019s official website.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere will be a little bit of a change over next season as we will look to move him a bit further back and maybe he can develop into a right-back.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 22-year-old\u2019s fine form on the wing saw him earn his first international caps for Ireland in 2011, although Moyes believes those excursions with the national side affected Coleman\u2019s club form.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the first six or seven months of last season he gave us great impetus, he was the one we were looking to in spells,\u201d the Scottish manager pointed out.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat fresh, real honest, just glad to be on the pitch approach was something I think the supporters recognised and appreciated.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think in the last few months he went off a little bit, I think after the last time he came back from international duty he did not come back firing like he was before.\u201d<\/p>\n
Moyes challenged the youngster, who joined from Sligo in January of 2009, to improve his consistency over the next season.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs I have said, sometimes there are things about Seamus when you can see why he was a \u00a360,000 player and then there are other times you will look at him and say that is great business,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOverall, his progress for us \u2013 from his loan move to Blackpool to coming back to us \u2013 you can see the strides he has made.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe really has stepped up massive levels in a short space of time and we are hoping for him to keep that going over the coming seasons.\u201d<\/p>\n
