Marcel Desailly

Former France captain Marcel Desailly is eyeing a management role in Ghana football following the completion of his three million Euro Sports facility at East Legon.

The 42 year old was named in the FA Search Committee’s five man short list for the then vacant Black Star coaching position in December but redrew from the race after complaining of undue delays in the recruitment exercise as well as the need to concentrate on completing his two-year project.

The Sports facility which is named after Desailly’s late mother was officially commissioned last weekend. Speaking to ETV Sports, Marcel Desailly said he is now looking forward to a managerial role in Ghana football.

“I want to be a bit more part of the administration,” he said.

“You see when you give me a target…..I wanted to be a soccer player; I think I have done something ok for my football career.”

The former Chelsea captain added that “I wanted to set up this project; I have finished it and next is administration, management and marketing.

“Probably I could have a role in Ghana football in that aspect but let’s be patient.
“We are now trying to see and find out where Marcel Desailly today can be of help for Ghana football,” he said.

Desailly’s distinguished football career saw him win the 1998 FIFA World Cup with the French national team and Euro 2000. He also played with several major European clubs, winning several titles.

When asked whether he has had discussions with the Ghana Football Association regards his aspirations, the two time European Champions league winner said: “Yes, no. It’s not a problem. What is important is what is going to happen.
“We are working on it and we hope something good will come up.”

Desailly added that his main motivation is to see Ghana’s national teams progress “I’m not important, it’s how the Black Stars perform and also we need to concentrate on the various national teams to allow them to perform and to get the winning mentality that we are looking for.”
