LAGOS \u2013 Following the recent spate of bomb blasts in the country, the Rapid Response Squad, yesterday, embarked on evacuation of all abandoned vehicles within the premises of the Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.<\/p>\n

The state government had also beefed up security\u00a0 within the State Secretariat and its environs, ordering the closure of the main entrance to the state secretariat by 7pm and limiting visitors to the Deputy Governor\u2019s gate.<\/p>\n

Vanguard learnt that the measure followed a directive by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim, that all abandoned vehicles on the highways and other strategic places across the country be evacuated forthwith.<\/p>\n

According to a police source, who did not want his name in print, the move had to do with the increasing rate of bomb explosions in some parts of the country. The bomb, the source\u00a0 said, were often planted in abandoned vehicles.<\/p>\n

Some of the abandoned vehicles were said to be those involved in accidents and had been left within the premises for close to five years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
