Following the resignation of Andre Villas-Boas, FC Porto president Pinto Da Costa has waved away any suggestions that he is angry with his former employee as he looks set to join Chelsea.

Villas-Boas resigned from his post on Tuesday with the view to becoming Chelsea’s new manager, however the club had to receive the €15 million £13.2M buyout clause in order for the contract to be terminated.

Chelsea had been looking for a new manager since late May after they sacked Italian Carlo Ancelotti, just a year after winning the league and FA Cup double with the Blues.

Villas-Boas – who speaks fluent English – looks set to re-join Chelsea following his stint at the club during Jose Mourinho’s popular reign, however back then he worked as only a scout and he left the club for Inter when his mentor left.

The 33-year-old – the youngest manager in history to win a European competition – signed for Porto last summer after predecessor Jesualdo Ferreira left for Spanish club Malaga.

Da Costa has insisted he, as well as the club, are in no way angry with Villas-Boas wanting to continue his football adventure elsewhere.

Speaking to reporters at the press conference to introduce Porto’s new manager, Da Costa said: “No, we are not angry or upset, because the compensation has been paid.

“He is tribute to the victories of FC Porto and with all the staff of the club. Of course the coach was an important part of that and he has a great merit from these victories.

“Why would I be angry? With compensation you can resign. The contract was signed by both parties and so you cannot be angry.”

Personal terms are now set to be discussed, and Villas-Boas could be officially appointed Chelsea manager as soon as Wednesday.
