ENUGU- WHAT would have been a tragic air disaster was averted Wednesday when an Arik aircraft scheduled\u00a0 to fly Enugu to Abuja by 8.50am almost crashed four minutes after take off.<\/p>\n

The over 100 passengers on board would have perished if the pilot had not returned shortly take off and made an emergency landing.<\/p>\n

Captain of the Boeing 737-800\u00a0 with registration number\u00a0 F-MJK, whose name could not be ascertained, was quoted to have said that\u00a0 he noticed\u00a0 right engine failure and quickly returned to the Akanu Ibiam Airport.<\/p>\n

An eyewitness said that the airport\u00a0 fire service, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), NCAA, the\u00a0 SSS, Police were all at alert when the plane landed.<\/p>\n

Aviation experts said that it was the experience of the pilot that saved both the aircraft and the passengers.<\/p>\n

Passengers who quickly came out of the aircraft narrated their frightful ordeal and called for improved aviation services.<\/p>\n

One of the passengers, a colonel in Nigeria Army,\u00a0 thanked God for saving their lives.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the\u00a0 Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has already grounded the aircraft until it is certified to fly again.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
