He said the faculties were operating illegally, and accused Abudo of defying instructions given by the current management of the CFI.

He claimed that the group around Jose Abudo “is trying to make impossible the activities of my leadership, which was democratically elected on 19 August 2009. They are trying to divide the activities of the university”.

Abudo’s group had taken legal action, so far without success, to remove Bay and keep Abudo as chairperson, a position he had held for 15 years. “Jose Abudo is orchestrating these situations in the Bin Bique University, so that he can remain in control of it”, accused Bay.

The University is in deep trouble, and in May the government threatened to close it down unless it sorted out a range of irregularities, including the opening of faculties without Ministry authorisation.

When the independent television station STV visited what was supposed to be an agriculture faculty of Mussa Bin Bique, in the northern city of Pemba, it found that the university library consisted of three small shelves. The bottom shelf contained religious books, while there were about 15 books relevant to the courses arranged on the top two shelves.

Bay has announced that a new Vice-Chancellor for the university will be announced next week, to comply with the Ministry’s demand that a properly qualified academic be appointed.

<fieldset>
<legend align="center">More News on allAfrica.com</legend>
</fieldset>

AllAfrica – All the Time

See more here:
Mussa Bin Bique University Closes Faculties

16 June 2011 Maputo — The chairperson of the Islamic Training Centre (CFI), Momade Bay, has announced that the Mussa Bin Bique University, which is owned by the CFI, is closing its faculties in Mocuba and Pebane in the central Mozambican province of Zambezia, Cited in the Beira daily paper “Diario de Mocambique”, Bay said that the faculties had been opened by the former chairperson of the CFI, Jose Abudo, without any authorisation.
