{"id":444028,"date":"2011-06-20T05:28:25","date_gmt":"2011-06-20T05:28:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/06\/20\/zambia-nfl-registration-approved\/"},"modified":"2011-06-20T05:28:25","modified_gmt":"2011-06-20T05:28:25","slug":"zambia-nfl-registration-approved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/06\/20\/zambia-nfl-registration-approved\/","title":{"rendered":"Zambia: NFL Registration Approved"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"49.2744146804\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.co.zm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/allafrica.com\/img\/static\/publishers\/minibanners\/timeszambia180.jpg\" alt=\"The Times of Zambia (Ndola)\" title=\"Visit The Times of Zambia (Ndola)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Muwali Musampula<\/p>\n<p>18 June 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>The Sports Council of Zambia (SCZ) has approved the registration of the National Football League (NFL) by the FAZ interim committee as an<\/p>\n<p>affiliate, with conditions.<\/p>\n<p>SCZ spokesperson Smart Mwitwa said at a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday that the board decided to accept the application after deliberations but attached conditions to the acceptance.<\/p>\n<p>The set out conditions are that the NFL would only be implemented at the end of the 2011 soccer season, that the interim committee should hold elections to usher into office permanent members and that there should be no disruptions to the current league run by the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ).<\/p>\n<p>Mwitwa said SCZ decided to approve the affiliation after extensive deliberations and consultations with various stakeholders and until it was finally concluded that the NFL had met all the required necessities to be considered an affiliate member.<\/p>\n<p>He said that NFL would be affiliate members of the FAZ and the two bodies will have to work together for the sake of football development in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The SCZ spokesperson however said that FAZ would have to change certain clauses in its constitution as a way of accommodating the NFL and the council would soon engage the local soccer governing body on the way forward.<\/p>\n<p>He said other technicalities on the operations of the NFL and the current soccer league would be dealt with at a later stage. &#8220;The application was found to have met the criteria for registration as an affiliate of the national sports council of Zambia subject to conditions set by the board. FAZ will have no choice but to work with the NFL and because of this we will soon engage FAZ so that they change their constitution to accommodate it (NFL),&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mwitwa said there was nothing sinister about accepting the NFL registration because Zambia was not the first country where such a development had occurred and appealed for the two parties to work together. And acting general secretary of the interim committee Simataa Simataa welcomed the development saying the move was long overdue. Simataa said the absence of the NFL had actually contributed to the declining soccer standards in the country.<\/p>\n<p>He said for football to start recording positive results like was the case in most countries worldwide, it was necessary to have a NFL that would concentrate on local soccer development activities.<\/p>\n<p>Simataa said the existence of two separate football bodies had helped other countries improve at international level because the local governing body concentrates on national teams, while the NFL deals with league and talent identification.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There was no need for this marathon wait to recognize the NFL because that is how football is run worldwide. We should be ashamed that we have taken this long when this should have been done 10 years ago.
