Newcastle United<\/a>\u2019s board of directors and chairman Derek Llambias are reportedly keen to adhere to their policy of reducing both their wage bill and the squad\u2019s average age, and are also targeting a loan deal for Chelsea<\/a>\u2019s Daniel Sturridge<\/a>, according to The News of the World<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Despite Newcastle fans being stunned by the departure of captain Kevin Nolan after contract talks broke down, the hierarchy at St. James\u2019 Park are keen to limit deals for players approaching their 30s, and are looking to bring in only younger players for next season.<\/p>\n

A source said:\u00a0 “There’s no way the club would offer long deals to players who are 28 or 29.<\/p>\n

“There was no way they would contemplate bettering the deal West Ham offered for Nolan. He was on \u00a340,000 a week and they offered \u00a310,000 more.<\/p>\n

“The club is on the way to being in far better health financially.”<\/p>\n

Already, Newcastle have signed Yohan Cabaye, Sylvain Marveaux and Demba Ba, and now they are reportedly keen to sign Chelsea youngster Daniel Sturridge on loan next season.<\/p>\n

Sturridge is apparently eager for first-team football next season, and has not received any assurances about his position at Stamford Bridge as Didier Drogba, Fernando Torres and Nicolas Anelka are established in the first-team.<\/p>\n

Newcastle are understood to want to take Sturridge on loan and offer him the No.9 shirt, but Bolton are also hopeful of luring their loan star from last season back to the Reebok Stadium.<\/p>\n
