The new administration\u00a0 of Governor Rabiu\u00a0 Musa Kwankwaso in Kano State has seized landed property allocated to the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, and other eminent Nigerians\u00a0 by the immediate past regime of Malam Ibrahim Shekarau in the state.<\/p>\n

Sunday Vanguard learnt that the controversial plots, located along Bayero University, Kano (BUK) Road, had\u00a0 initially generated controversy in the ancient city between the Shekarau-led government and Kwankwaso\u2019s\u00a0 supporters following the intention of the former\u00a0 governor to allocate\u00a0 it to some individuals at the twilight of his administration.
Kwankwaso had repeatedly made open his displeasure to build up the area and vowed to recover the strategic expanse of land when he assumed power.<\/p>\n

In line with that\u00a0 vow, Kwankwaso reportedly oversaw\u00a0 the\u00a0 late night operation by Kano Urban Development Agency that flattened multi-million naira structures erected by individuals on the controversial Kofar Na\u2019isa open field last week.<\/p>\n

The demolition that commenced by 2.00 a.m. was sequel to the revocation of the controversial plots by the Kwankwaso administration\u00a0 following the allotment of same\u00a0 by the last administration allegedly to powerful individuals within and outside the state.<\/p>\n

The list of beneficiaries obtained by Sunday Vanguard\u00a0 includes, Kwankwaso\u2019s father, Alhaji Musa Kwankwaso; a former\u00a0 army chief, AbdulRahaman Dambazua;\u00a0 and top security goons serving in the state.<\/p>\n

Other top Nigerians on the long list\u00a0 are Vice President Namadi Sambo; former Vice President\u00a0\u00a0 Atiku Abubakar and inspector\u00a0 general of police Hafiz Ringim.<\/p>\n

Also on the list are Sokoto State governor,\u00a0 Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, his Jigawa State counterpart, Alhaji Sule Lamido and\u00a0 Alhaji Aminu Dantata.<\/p>\n

Sunday Vanguard further learnt that over 1,000 plots were allocated to top Nigerians at the Kofar Na\u2019isa area bordering the congested\u00a0 old city believed to host half of Kano\u2019s over 10 million people.<\/p>\n

Kwankwaso action was said to have damaged the relationship between\u00a0 the monarch and the\u00a0 new administration as Bayero\u00a0 considered\u00a0 the landed property\u2019s revocation order as not only an \u2018affront, but sacrilegious\u2019 .<\/p>\n

The emir, who has refused to speak on the property seizure, declared, on Friday, that Shekarau had set an enviable record of achievements that no one could match in\u00a0 Kano State.<\/p>\n

A press statement\u00a0 by the former Senior Special Assistant Media to the erstwhile governor, Sule Yau Sule, quoted the emir as saying, when Shekarau paid a courtesy call on\u00a0 him,\u00a0 that \u2018\u2019Malam Shekarau has done so much towards the upliftment of Islam and the social life of Kano people\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n

The emir, in the statement, explained that \u2018\u2019this landmark achievement by the Sardauna was what prompted the Kano Emirate to appoint him as a member of the Kano Emirate so that he could as well contribute in decisions of the Emirate Council for the betterment of the people of the state.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

In\u00a0 defense of Kwankwaso\u2019s action that has already attracted litigation, the Media Assistant to the Governor, Jafar\u00a0 Jaafar, stated that the revocation was done \u2018\u2019in the best interest of the public.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

The\u00a0 media aide\u00a0 pointed out\u00a0 that \u2018\u2019the place in contention is not residential, and all the structures right from the Kano Fire Service up to the Aminu Kano School for Legal Studies a distance of 5.5km are public places\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
