Jos \u2014 The Civil Society Coalition in Plateau State has called for an overhaul of the country\u2019s security system describing Thursday\u2019s bomb blast at the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja as a national embarrassment.<\/p>\n

The coalition in a statement in Jos yesterday said the bombing of the force headquarters and the series of criminal activities across the country for some time now, were reflections of the level of insecurity in the country which government should take urgent action to redress.<\/p>\n

The statement signed by its Chairman, Mr. Joseph Sangosanya noted that Nigerians were now living in perpetual fear because of the level of insecurity across the country urging government to act more and talk less.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis obvious exhibition of loopholes in our national security system is totally unacceptable. Following the bombings in some states during the May 29 Presidential Inauguration where scores of people were killed; there have been several bombings in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cNeedless to say that security in Nigeria is zero considering the various crimes being reported daily. The five serving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the South-South kidnapped since Tuesday, June 7, 2011 are still in the kidnappers den since the poor parents of these young, innocent, and energetic youths who are serving their fatherland under the sun and in the rain could not afford the huge ransom demanded by their wards abductors\u201d, the statement noted.<\/p>\n

It urged government to take steps to address the rising wave in crime while the ease with which arms and ammunition were being brought into the country because of the country\u2019s porous borders needs to be checked.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
