Chime slams bomb attacks<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Following the spate of bomb attacks and general acts of terror spreading across the country, former Kwara State Governor and Senator of the Federal Republic, Dr Bukola Saraki has called on eminent Nigerians across party lines, states, religious and traditional institutions to come together and find a lasting solution to the problem.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis development which has become a daily occurrence has not only put the whole nation on the edge, it has also inflicted untold trauma and severe brutality on the psyche of the Nigerian people\u201d.According to Dr Saraki, \u201cthere is no gainsaying the fact that the nation and the people are presently going through a trying period, a situation that is rapidly eroding the modest socio economic and political gains we have achieved through the practice of democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The situation, if left unchecked, he said, may lead to general breakdown of law and order, an ill wind that will blow no one any good.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo avert this and return the nation to the state of peace and normalcy, there is urgent need for all of us across the party lines, states and traditional institutions not to see this sad development as Jonathan government\u2019s problem alone, but that of all of us.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must all come together and work with all sense of patriotism to tackle the willful debauchery of our corporate entity by the criminal few of the populace\u201d, Saraki said.<\/p>\n

Adding that resorting to terrorism to settle a political or religious grievances is barbaric and is never known to\u00a0 achieve any meaningful result.<\/p>\n

While sympathizing with the victims of terror attacks across the nation and condoling the families of the dead, Dr Saraki reiterated that the time to bring the spate of violence against the country and the people to stop is now.<\/p>\n

Chime slams bomb attacks<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

ENUGU\u2014GOVERNOR Sullivan Chime of\u00a0 Enugu State, yesterday, lent his voice to the widespread condemnations of Thursday\u2019s bomb attacks at the police headquarters,\u00a0 Abuja and Maiduguri, Borno state, describing them as unwarranted, cowardly and cold-blooded acts of violence that should never go unpunished.<\/p>\n

He noted that the latest attacks had changed the face and tone of terrorism in\u00a0 Nigeria. The Governor called for a massive sweep of terror elements in the society with a view to rooting out the cankerworm before it takes firm roots.<\/p>\n

Chime, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Chukwudi Achife, expressed concern at the novel use of suicide bombing in the attack at the police headquarters saying that all efforts must be made to prevent Nigerian youths from being used in such a cruel and senseless way to advance anti-social causes.<\/p>\n

Chime also called for greater vigilance on the part of both security agencies and the citizens of the country towards the early detection and prevention of terror plots, adding that more education and sensitization on the nature and operational methods of the terrorists should be made available to the Nigerian public.<\/p>\n

He expressed sympathy with the victims of the attacks and their survivors, saying that the nation owed them a duty to ensure that the perpetrators of the dastardly act were brought to book and that such incidents do not recur.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
