{"id":443308,"date":"2011-06-17T14:06:50","date_gmt":"2011-06-17T14:06:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/06\/17\/govts-big-task-ahead-of-climate-change-talks\/"},"modified":"2011-06-17T14:06:50","modified_gmt":"2011-06-17T14:06:50","slug":"govts-big-task-ahead-of-climate-change-talks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/06\/17\/govts-big-task-ahead-of-climate-change-talks\/","title":{"rendered":"Govt&#8217;s Big Task Ahead of Climate Change Talks"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"33.086385239\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.buanews.gov.za\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BuaNews<\/a> (Tshwane)<\/p>\n<p>17 June 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>Pretoria \u2014 As host of the upcoming climate change conference (COP 17), South Africa has a mammoth task of ensuring that all parties to the gathering deliver an acceptable and equitable deal, says International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As the onus of delivering an acceptable climate change outcome in Durban rests on South Africa&#8230; it is crucial that we utilise the next four months to promote the sharing of views and ideas, in an effort to overcome and narrow the divide between developed and developing countries on the expected outcomes of Durban,&#8221; she said at a G77 climate meeting in New York.<\/p>\n<p>The gathering in Durban in November this year is regarded as one of the largest United Nations meetings on climate change and is expected to draw heads of state from more than 100 countries.<\/p>\n<p>This week, Nkoana-Mashabane said she was also pleased with the negotiations currently taking place in Bonn, Germany.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have been in contact with our delegation in Bonn and we are encouraged to learn that progress is being made in a number of bodies of the UNFCCC.
