{"id":443279,"date":"2011-06-17T17:57:11","date_gmt":"2011-06-17T17:57:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/06\/17\/annan-lauds-judicial-appointments\/"},"modified":"2011-06-17T17:57:11","modified_gmt":"2011-06-17T17:57:11","slug":"annan-lauds-judicial-appointments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/06\/17\/annan-lauds-judicial-appointments\/","title":{"rendered":"Annan Lauds Judicial Appointments"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"36.3526268923\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nation.co.ke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/allafrica.com\/img\/static\/publishers\/minibanners\/nation180.jpg\" alt=\"The Nation (Nairobi)\" title=\"Visit The Nation (Nairobi)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Anthony Kariuki<\/p>\n<p>17 June 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>Nairobi \u2014 Chief mediator Kofi Annan has lauded the judicial appointments announced by President Kibaki saying they were a true reflection that reforms were on course in Kenya.<\/p>\n<p>He said the new Chief Justice, his deputy, Supreme Court judges and the Director of Public Prosecutions will be tasked with guiding reform in the Judiciary.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Upon assuming office, the new incumbents will take on responsibility for guiding and facilitating much of the justice reforms contemplated in the new Constitution,&#8221; said Dr Annan in a statement Friday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I wish them well.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dr Annan, who negotiated a peace deal that ended months of post election violence in Kenya after a disputed presidential election in 2007, said he hoped the new office holders would fulfill Kenyans&#8217; expectations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The appointments to these senior positions usher in a new era of judicial dispensation in Kenya. The expectations of the people are high.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Kenya wants to see a fully independent, accountable and efficient justice system.
