The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) has backed Super Eagles head coach, Samson Siasia camp choice for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar in September.<\/p>\n

NFA technical committee chairman Chris Green explained that Siasia would be backed on his pre-game plan to ensure that the team beat their Madagascar counterparts in Antananarivo.<\/p>\n

“He’s the coach and he knows what is best for the team and we will give him all the support to make sure that the team is comfortable for the game (Madagascar).<\/p>\n

“Whether the coach decides to pick a camp venue in Nigeria or abroad the federation is ready to give the team the backing so that they succeed,” Green said.<\/p>\n

Green made it clear that the NFA will not stand in the way of Siasia’s plans for the game against Madagascar.<\/p>\n

“The federation will be happy to see the team win their remaining games starting with that of Madagascar because Nigeria cannot afford to miss out on next year’s Nations Cup,” said the NFA executive committee member.<\/p>\n

Nigeria trailed three points behind group leaders, Guinea with 10 points with two games to go. Group leader qualifies automatically for the Nations Cup to be co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, former international, Finidi George has allayed fears of Nigeria’s qualification for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.<\/p>\n

Finidi, who was among the galaxy of stars that graced former Super Eagles’ captain Kanu Nwankwo pull out game on Saturday at the Teslim Balogun stadium, Lagos said Nigeria has been on similar path but have gone ahead to qualify at the end of the day. He opined that Nigeria will qualify for the continental football fiesta.<\/p>\n

“We have been in situation like this before, do you remember the 2002 World Cup, we were in a very tight situation like this but at the end of the day we qualified for the World Cup. We need to believe in our team; hopefully they will make us proud.”<\/p>\n

He said we need not put unnecessary pressure on the coach and the team, hinting that the current up and down in fortune is expected of a team still undergoing restructuring.<\/p>\n

“We are in a little bit of a hurry, Siasia is new, the players are new, it will take about two, three years to fully build the team.<\/p>\n

“Why are we always in a hurry, we need time to build a new team, that is what we need to do now, putting pressure on them at this infancy stage will make them derail.<\/p>\n

“We should not do it; we should be patient with them. One is not saying that they should not raise their game against their opponents or win convincingly, what I am saying is that we should take it easy with them especially when they are not living up to our expectations,” the former Sharks told SuperSport.com.<\/p>\n
