{"id":442860,"date":"2011-06-16T21:28:46","date_gmt":"2011-06-16T21:28:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/06\/16\/blackberry-firm-sales-disappoint\/"},"modified":"2011-06-16T21:28:46","modified_gmt":"2011-06-16T21:28:46","slug":"blackberry-firm-sales-disappoint","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/06\/16\/blackberry-firm-sales-disappoint\/","title":{"rendered":"Blackberry firm sales disappoint"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div readability=\"54.6494845361\"><span><span>16 June 2011<\/span> <span>Last updated at<\/span> <span>17:28 ET<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Research in Motion (RIM), which makes Blackberry phones, has missed even its lowered profit forecasts and lowered its predictions for the full year.<\/p>\n<p>RIM made a net profit of $695m (\u00a3430m) in the three months to 28 May, down from $769m in the same period last year.<\/p>\n<p>It warned in April that its profits would be low because of lower shipments of its Blackberry phones.<\/p>\n<p>RIM has announced a cost-cutting programme, which will include job cuts.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Fiscal 2012 has gotten off to a challenging start,&#8221; said Jim Balsillie, joint chief executive of RIM.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The slowdown we saw in the first quarter is continuing into Q2, and delays in new product introductions into the very late part of August is leading to a lower than expected outlook in the second quarter.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The company&#8217;s shares fell sharply in after-hours trading and had to be suspended briefly.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The guidance was just awful. The devices are receiving less shelf space and less support from carriers,&#8221; said Peter Misek at Jefferies and Co in New York.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;People are not waiting.
