This year, the government will be seeking to raise an extra Sh2.5 billion from its houses an indicator that rents are likely to be reviewed.

Other services that will cost Kenyans more to access include land adjudication and case fees, sale of freehold interest in agricultural land and registration services. According to the document, other fees set o increase include conveyance fees, Kenya Oil Facility Charges, fishing rights, betting control and fees from trustee services.

And in what indicates that the government will be more stricter on taxation, the Treasury is hoping to raise an extra Sh82 billion this year from taxes on income, profits and capital gain taxes. This year, revenue from such taxes is estimated to hit Sh291 billion, up from Sh209 billion in the 2009/2010 financial year.

And even though finance minister Uhuru Kenyatta did not raise the value added tax (VAT), the Treasury is hoping to raise more than Sh82 billion from taxes on goods and services this financial year. In total, the government estimates to raise Sh298 billion from taxes on goods and services, up from Sh216 billion last year.

Other notable income streams that the government is banking on to fund the Sh1.15 trillion budget include an extra Sh22 billion expected from taxes on international trade and transaction and some Sh16 billion expected as grants from foreign international organizations.

According to the budget speech, the total revenue target for this year is Sh787.6 billion which comprises of Sh713.6 billion of ordinary revenue and Sh75.9 billion of appropriations-in aid. The appropriation-in-aid now include fee collected by public universities which were previously not captured in the budget.

The government however has to contend with a Sh236.2 billion in deficit which it intends to seal through domestic and foreign borrowing.

<fieldset>
<legend align="center">More News on allAfrica.com</legend>
</fieldset>

AllAfrica – All the Time

View article:
Kenya: State to Review Key Services Charges

Nairobi Star (Nairobi) Peter Kiragu 16 June 2011 The Government will soon review charges for goods and services offered by various ministries and government agencies to help Treasury meet its revenue collection, targets contained in the latest budget show.
