Nana Akomea, Communications Director for the 2012 New Patriotic Party (NPP) campaign team, has said the party would investigate how a booklet supposedly listing the achievements of the first four years of the Kufour-regime came about.

The booklet, named ‘Four-years of Positive Change, so far so good’, was taken to the studios of Asempa FM by Deputy Information Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa on Wednesday from which he quoted portions to advance arguments on the differences between the Mills-led government and the erstwhile Kufuor administration.

Mr Ablakwa stated that the NPP had, in the book, listed the commissioning of KVIPs and other menial projects as achievements chalked by the Kufuor–administration while they hypocritically ridiculed President Mills for commissioning boreholes and classroom blocks.

However, Nana Akomea who appeared on Thursday’s Ekosii Sen, ostensibly to react to Mr Ablakwa’s comments, denied that the booklet Mr Ablakwa had in his possession – a photocopy of which was in the possession of the show host – was printed by the NPP.

He said the book had been selectively reproduced by someone whose intention was to use it for mischievous purposes.

When the show host Nana Bobie-Ansah read portions of the book, he said its foreword as stated had been written by Mr Dan Botwe, who was named as a former Information Minister at the time the book was written. But Nana Akomea said Mr Botwe could not have written the foreword because he was not the Information Minister at the time.

He also noted that pictures in the book, according to his examination, looked like they had been ‘photo shopped’ and insisted that it was not a copy of the original book the NPP had printed on its ‘Positive Change’ projects.

He said the NPP would investigate the matter to ascertain who was behind the mischievous reproduction of the book.

Meanwhile Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa, who called into the programme to respond to the issue, said he made the original copy of the book available to the host of the programme on Wednesday and so he could not have deliberately reproduced it and distorted portions of it for purposes of mischief as the impression was being created.

He claimed to have confirmed with the Registrar General’s Department that the book was published by Jada Print, located in North Kaneshie, after the company was awarded the contract by the NPP administration.

“…what interest will I have in creating such a thing?” Mr Ablakwa asked, adding that if the NPP are ashamed of their own deeds, they should admit it instead of trying to impute criminality to him.
