A mobile phone service provider – Tigo\u00a0 – on Wednesday announced its plans to repair classrooms at two Dar es Salaam-based primary schools – Maarifa and Pugu Kajiungeni.<\/p>\n

At the Maarifa School, the repair works will restructure the old and dilapidated class buildings while at the Pugu Kajiungeni, the firm will renovate class buildings that were affected by the Gongo la Mboto bomb explosions.<\/p>\n

Tigo Public Relations Officer Jackson Mmbando said in Dar es Salaam that the renovation works are scheduled to start immediately, saying everything was already in place for the work.<\/p>\n

“The renovation works at these schools will start soon… this is just the continuation<\/p>\n

of our education initiatives through which we recently donated lap desks,” said Mmbando.<\/p>\n

A teacher at Maarifa School, Mr Julias Mwakalonge, thanked the company for the initiative to renovate the classrooms.<\/p>\n

“Some classrooms at our school really needed renovation… we thank Tigo for coming onboard to rescue the situation.”<\/p>\n

The headmistress at Pugu Kajiungeni Primary School, Ms Mariam Korongo, urged Tigo to honour the promise, saying she had been receiving similar promises from individuals and companies with nothing being done.<\/p>\n

“I thank Tigo for their promise and firmly believe that theirs would be fulfilled and set precedence for others to emulate when it comes to supporting education,” she said.<\/p>\n

She said some buildings –classrooms and teachers’ offices – that were badly affected by the bombs were yet to be repaired, noting that the school had some old classrooms that needed renovation.<\/p>\n
