AKURE \u2013 THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ondo State and the ruling Labour Party, LP, are at loggerhead over the defection of the pioneer state Chairman of the PDP, Col Babatunde\u00a0Awodeyi (Rtd) to the LP.<\/p>\n

Col Awodeyi,\u00a0 was one of the PDP leaders that moved against the immediate past Governor Olusegun Agagu by suspending him and the state Executive Committee.<\/p>\n

His defection is regarded as a big minus for the PDP in Ondo because of his political influence in Ose Local government area of the state.<\/p>\n

Col Awodeyi and the former commissioner for health, Dr Kehinde Adedeji defected to the LP last week and were received in Ifon, the headquarters of the council by governor Olusegun Mimiko and other chieftains of the LP.<\/p>\n

But the PDP in a response to the defection, disowned Awodeyi, saying that he was no more a member of the party, having voluntarily quit partisan politics in March 2009.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to place on record that Awodeyi is not a member of our party any longer as he voluntary pulled out of the party in March 2009 claiming that he has come of age and has as such retired from politics, he thereafter organised a thanksgiving service to celebrate his exploits in politics.<\/p>\n

According to the Ondo State PDP Director of Publicity, Ayo Fadaka: \u201cAwodeyi was no more a member of the PDP following his retirement from politics. \u201cCol Tunde Awodeyi claim that he was leaving the party for Labour Party and the Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko spared no effort\u00a0 and fund to organise a high level reception for a man who has not been truthful enough about his real political status\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
