The British government has promised to strengthen cooperation with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC in its war against corruption in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
In a statement signed by the spokesperson of the commission, Wilson Uwujaren the British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Giles Lever made the pledge yesterday while on a courtesy visit to the Acting Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde.<\/p>\n
According to the statement, “the envoy, while congratulating the new EFCC boss on his recent appointment, said his visit underscores the importance which the British government place on the work of the Commission. He said his government looks forward to sustaining the level of cooperation between the EFCC and UK law enforcement agencies and promise greater support for the agency in the coming months.<\/p>\n
In his remarks, Mr. Lamorde noted that the EFCC has over the years enjoyed the support of the British government in the execution its mandate, but pleaded for more support to enable the Commission overcome current challenges.<\/p>\n
The EFCC has a history of cooperation with the Metropolitan Police and the UK Serious organized Crime Agency. He added.<\/p>\n
Mr. Lever who was accompanied on the visit by Mr. Hooman, Senior Political Officer, is the first envoy to visit Lamorde since he assumed office on Monday November 28, 2011.<\/p>\n
