Disabled athlete Frans Panduleni Paulus, aka Pac, dreams of being a world champion in the near future, and says he will do just about anything to achieve his goal.<\/p>\n

But before all that goes down, he has an audacious mission to complete at home.<\/p>\n

From July 4 to 9, Pac will attempt to cover over 700 kilometres from Oshakati to Windhoek on his specially adapted state-of-the-art racing wheelchair.<\/p>\n

The highly motivated 31-year-old from Oshakati gave The Namibian Sport’s Sheefeni Nikodemus insight into his latest adventure and his plans to get disabled sport more recognition in the country.<\/p>\n

The Namibian Sport: What made you take up this challenge?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pac Paulus: I want to get strong support for the sport of people with disabilities in the country and to motivate Namibia’s disabled to wake up and to take part in sport because I believe that sport is not only to make money but it can change the life of somebody like it changed my life. Also sport can make somebody important in life and take you somewhere you never thought about before.<\/p>\n

TNS: Have you taken part in any other such race outside Namibia?<\/strong><\/p>\n

PP: Until now, I have never taken part in something like this my career. I’ve done 42,2 km in international competition but in training I can ride up to100 km in three hours.<\/p>\n

TNS: How important is it for you to complete this mission?<\/strong><\/p>\n

PP: I think this will be a historic event in the country and outside of the country. I also have a strong feelings that this will remain in the memories of many people and this will be highly appreciated by me and to the sport for people with disability in Namibia. I’ve come a long way up to this point. I don’t give up because I believe and I always dream and I have this strong feeling that one day I will become one of the most successful people around the world.<\/p>\n

TNS: What drives you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

PP: The fact that I want to achieve something big in my life.<\/p>\n

TNS: Would you say you’re the best in Namibia at what you do?<\/strong><\/p>\n

PP: So far I am not the best because I haven’t done much yet. But I really want to do as much as I can to get there so that I can get sponsors to help me achieve this.<\/p>\n

TNS: Other than racing, what else do you do?<\/strong><\/p>\n

PP: So far I have nothing else to do apart from sport.<\/p>\n

TNS: What would you rate as your best achievements to date?<\/strong><\/p>\n

PP: I’m the first ever Namibian disabled athlete to race in this type of wheelchair and I’m also the first disable athlete to take part in the wheelchair challenge over 42,2 km in SA ,where I managed to come seventh. I finished with a time of one hour, 27 minutes and eight seconds and I manage to qualify for the Olympic Games in my first race with my new hand bike.<\/p>\n

TNS: What else does ‘Pac’ what to achieve?<\/strong><\/p>\n

PP: My main ambition is to become the champion of the world and to fly my national flag on all corners of the world.<\/p>\n

TNS: How much longer do you plan to keep racing?<\/strong><\/p>\n

PP: At least for ten more years. I want to keep doing this because I want to build our sport so that when the new blood will find a good system in place. Hopefully they will not have to deal with difficulties like I did and that will hep them perform better.<\/p>\n
