Source: Kwadwo Asare/TIME ON THE COUCH

Have you ever missed the presence of a loved one? I am sure you will agree with me that it totally sucks! It is such an unpleasant feeling. It’s been exactly 3 weeks since the close of the football season and already, for me, life seems to have lost its importance. So much so that I have sought comfort in the arms of Tennis (waiting patiently for Wimbledon). Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but I mean, like a fleeced cocaine addict, I need my football!!!

Bored to death with no football to watch, I took a trip this weekend to the UK in search of ‘konkonsa’, the little matter of Giggs’ affair at the heart of my trip. Oh no! It wasn’t for my benefit. You, my adoring readers do know that I’d go through just about anything to bring you all the latest rundown…hmmm… REALLY??? Ok (hehehe). Well, if you doubted, United are almost pulling away from the rest of the pack with the near capture of Ashley Young from Aston Villa. Fantastic signing if you ask me. The summer transfer soup is just simmering though and far off its boiling point. Many interesting and outrageous transfers coming your way, I guarantee that. Make a call.

Anyway, so I made my way to Manchester in my chauffeur driven Mercedes S-class (yes! My trips are not all hard laboured you know (there are a few pecks here and there), checked into a fabulous hotel close to… ‘errm’. Forget that, it’s not important. All I’m saying is that I did some snooping around in Manchester. Word is Ryan Giggs’ sexual affair with his brother’s wife is the secret for his and Manchester United’s success all these years. John Terry got wind of it and as selfless as he is, must have thought, “why not I do same for Chelsea?” But since he has no brother, he decided to make do with his best friend’s wife. Hey, I am not here to judge anyone’s character but Ryan Giggs of all people? His actions bring into perspective the saying that “the devil you know is a “haaarrd guy” than the angel you do not know”. Either way, it is certainly difficult to defend Giggs, for he has left his numerous fans and in particular his brother on the verge of tipping over…BROKEN!!

Back home in Ghana, it has also been some weeks of tempers boiling over.3 howlers, albeit one in training and “THE NATION’S No. 1‘s” breaking point was seriously tested, with football fans calling for his head. I wouldn’t say those calls were justified. What I would say though is that whichever way you choose to look at it we need a very capable replacement goalkeeper, and fast. I heard a couple of our old stars going on about how the Maldinis and Inzaghis have played well into their forties and how Ghanaians do not appreciate their heroes. Fair enough, that. But you see, some of our current stars are way older than these players, having spent a greater part of their youthful years wandering in the colts level in Ghana football (seriously Van der Sar den Olele no dey the same age group. Olele go punish Van der Sar for SHS).

Besides Olele has been Ghana’s No. 1 for quite some time, good in terms of consistency. But if signs are that age is catching up with him (that’s funny) what stops us from calling for others to take his place. In fact, he has even done so well in keeping age at bay for all these years. Notwithstanding the enormous contribution of “Kalyppo Performance-Enhancing drugs aka KPE drugs liaised with the magic water that flows from the Polytanks in his house, I cannot see our dear Olele taking us to another world cup. It shouldn’t be as if any one position in the Black Stars team is somebody’s personal property because there is surely an abundance of football talent in Ghana. It is very heart-warming nevertheless to see that we have moved from an era where we had to beg our stars to come and play for us. Now they are begging us to let them have their positions.

“Competition is certainly good, but it becomes negative when it gets us to our breaking point”-wise words from kjay.
