MR. BAFFOUR Osei Wusu, a diehard National Democratic Congress (NDC) activist in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, has expressed worry about the growing impasse in the party.

According to him, the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Council of Elders should have intervened much earlier, in order to prevent all those problems, to enhance the party’s chances of retaining power in 2012.

‘I strongly believe that all these hullabaloo will come to pass after the July congress at Sunyani,’ he underscored, and appealed to supporters of the two factions of Prof Atta Mills and Nana Konadu Rawlings to avoid the use of abusive words against their competitors as the congress is impending.

‘Let’s respect one’s views and opinions, in order to be united after the congress, and fight for one cause, which is to retain the party in power, come the 2012 general elections. We are from one mother with the same ideology,’ he pointed out during an interview with The Chronicle.

He noted that it was not too late for the executives to act and quell the feud, and queried, ‘If the party could mobilise prominent people to vet the two candidates vying for the presidential slot, why cannot they exploit the rich experience to settle the inter-party problem?’

He appealed to the executives not to rest on their oars, as they could still do more to bring about peace and unity to make the party attract more floating voters in 2012.

It would be in their own good if the party remains in government, because the Council of Elders and the national executives would not be in place if the government is out of office.
