\"\"<\/a>The Extra-Ordinary National Delegates\u2019 Congress of the Convention People\u2019s Party (CPP) slated for June ending has been postponed to September 30, Mr Ladi Nylander, the National Chairman, said in Kumasi at the weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe party will elect the National Executives in the next six to eight weeks and elect its flag bearer for Election 2012 on September 30 this year,\u201d Mr Nylander told reporters after meeting constituency chairmen of the party in Ashanti Region. The meeting formed part of his campaign for re-election.<\/p>\n

This is the third time the Congress has been postponed. It was initially fixed for April 29 and 30 but was postponed to May 27 to 29 and later to June ending, mainly due to operational hiccups and organizational challenges.<\/p>\n

Mr Nylander called on potential delegates to the congress to vote massively to retain him to enable him to better prepare and position the party for the 2012 general elections.<\/p>\n

Responding to questions on his achievements and campaign promise in 2007 that he was not \u201cinterested in becoming a national chairman in opposition,\u201d Mr Nylander identified as a major achievement the formation of a Shadow Cabinet, which has brought together all the key members of the party.<\/p>\n

Mr Nylander was quoted to have said during CPP Zonal Constituency meeting at Obuasi in September 2007 that \u201che could successfully lead the party if voted for as its chairman\u201d.<\/p>\n

Leading members of the party including Dr Edmund Nminyem Delle, a former National Chairman of the party and other identifiable pressure groups had called for a postponement of the Congress to the end of July.<\/p>\n

Dr Delle, who is again aspiring for the National Chairmanship slot, had said it was \u201cpractically impossible to organize ward, constituency and regional conferences to elect executives before April ending, which is a mandatory requirement for a National Delegates Congress\u201d.<\/p>\n

He noted that they needed a minimum of two weeks to organize ward and constituency congresses, another two weeks for regional elections, and about two weeks for opening of nominations for national executive office aspirants.<\/p>\n

Dr Delle also indicated that about a week would be required to vet aspirants. Constituency conferences must follow after all the branches have been duly organised and the list of members attending the branch general meeting and constituency conferences have been compiled.<\/p>\n

He said photographs of delegates to the regional conference must be taken and the records sent to the national secretariat to facilitate the drawing up of the congress register before a national delegates\u2019 congress.<\/p>\n
