A Deputy Minister of Information, Alhaji Baba Ahmed Jamal, has said the government will apply the rule of law and due process in the governance of the country.<\/p>\n
He said since the country was operating under a constitutional regime where fundamental basic freedoms were guaranteed, the government respected the provisions in the Constitution and would not act outside it.<\/p>\n
Baba Jamal said this when he addressed media practitioners drawn from the Volta Region in the Ho as part of a regional tour to launch the \u201cBranding Ghana from Inside\u201d project in the Volta Region last Thursday.<\/p>\n
He said Ghana was a beacon of democracy in Africa and the neighbouring states because of the peaceful coexistence and tolerance of political parties in the country.<\/p>\n
He urged journalists to criticise constructively and be patriotic and show more professionalism in their job.<\/p>\n
Baba Jamal said governments would come and go but the state would remain and so it behoves journalists not to allow themselves to be misused by politicians.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo country can grow without its journalists growing with it and I stress that you should become catalysts of development and not catalysts of crisis,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to him, President John Ata Mills is a tolerant and accommodating leader and was prepared to work with everybody to achieve the \u201cBetter Ghana Agenda\u201d.<\/p>\n
He said his exceptional character had earned him titles such as the \u201cKing of Peace\u201d and the \u201cKing of Humility\u201d.<\/p>\n
Alhaji Baba Jamal also urged citizens to show reverence to national emblems in order not to undermine the national pride.<\/p>\n
The Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Colonel Cyril Necku(rtd.), said the region was a friendly zone so far as media performance was concerned, adding that \u201cthe media is doing well.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Regional Secretary of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Mr Kafui Kanyi, said the media would work objectively according to the tenets of their profession despite criticisms.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
