This was revealed yesterday by Kenya Rugby Union chairman Mwangi Muthee. The three are set to undergo trials and according to the terms of the deal will be released for national duty.

Muthee welcomed the move observing the players will get the relevant exposure and bring back knowledgethat will help the growth of the sport in Kenya.”We are delighted that our players will get the exposure and learn from the Mpumalanga knowledge and experience. We will then see how we can improve our rugby,” he added.

Mpumalanga will also train the Kenyan tight five players who play in the scrum. These are notably the two props, hooker and second rows to improve their scrummaging.

Muthee observed 15s rugby is won by the quality of the tight five and Kenya needs to learn from Mpumalanga on the technique.”Our tight five will improve and become better once they get to South Africa and that will raise the level of our scrimmages,” Muthee added.

Muthee also added the Kenya -Mpumalanga fixture will become an annual event in the Kenyan calendar starting from next year.”This is the way to improve our rugby and grow it. To improve the 15s game we have to play top quality opposition,” he added.The two sides meet for the second time in four days today. The Kenyans lost 48-22 on Wednesday.

Kenya coach Michael “Tank” Otieno is expected to play the national side. He said the team needs to improve its defensive structure and scrum ahead of today’s game.”Our defence was poor we conceded soft tries in the first half and we must improve on that in tomorrow’s game,” he said yesterday. Otieno is expected to field Nato Simiyu, Daniel Kiptoo, Martin Likami, Jared Owinyo and Kelvin Omiyo as seeks to beat the tourists in today’ s game. Mpumalanga coach Jimmy Stonehouse said he will field his regulars for the match and expected a closer game than Wednesday’s encounter.

<fieldset>
<legend align="center">More News on allAfrica.com</legend>
</fieldset>

AllAfrica – All the Time

Continue reading here:
Kenya: Local Players to Benefit From Mpumalanga Contracts

Nairobi Star (Nairobi) William Njuguna 11 June 2011 South Africa’s Mpumalanga Pumas are set to offer professional contracts to three Kenyan players between 20 and 23 years of age.
