Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, was involved in another drama on Saturday when he stopped his convoy and deployed his aides to join him in controlling the traffic gridlock at the Airforce Base axis of the G. U. Ake Road in Port Harcourt, where road construction was in progress.

The governor was on an inspection tour of projects in the state before he stopped temporarily and began to control the traffic snail on the road.

Amaechi also instructed his aides to join him in bringing sanity to the road and allow motorists, who had been waiting for hours to heave a sigh of relief.

The governor, barely two weeks ago, ordered a motorist that drove against the traffic, back to the original lane.

Amaechi, who was angry with the recklessness of motorists plying the road, for recklessness, spent over an hour controlling the traffic to the admiration of passersby.

Many pedestrians stopped on the road and watched with excitement how the governor controlled the traffic.

Surprisingly, the governor ordered the seizure of car keys belonging to errant drivers while others with minor traffic offences were directed to join his convoy for the three-hour inspection of projects.

The measure, according to one of the governor’s aides, was to serve as a deterrent to other errant drivers, who had made traffic flow in Port Harcourt and its environs a nightmare.
