ABUJA-Senate President, David Mark, has said the National Assembly remained committed to amending the 1999 constitution to give room for the creation of more states in Nigeria.<\/p>\n

Senator Mark, who gave the assurance in his home town, Otukpo, weekend, also reiterated that he would be guided by God and the constitution in the discharge of his duties as the President of the Senate.<\/p>\n

He maintained that state creation was a certainty because the National Assembly was confident that the creation of more states would enhance development and bring government closer to the people.<\/p>\n

According to him, \u201cI have neither gold nor silver to give you but I will honestly serve you with the best of my ability to make our society a better place. I will be honest and truthful. I will be committed to the ideals of nationhood.<\/p>\n

\u201cAbove all, I will serve with the fear of God and I will be guided by the principles of fairness, justice, equity and respect for the rule of law.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will be guided by the Constitution, the standing rule of the Senate and work in tandem with the wishes and aspirations of my colleagues so that collectively, we will be able to lay a solid legislative frame work for the government to deliver the dividend of democracy to our people. \u201c<\/p>\n

Reiterating his resolve to ensure that the Constitutional Amendment continued, Mark\u00a0 said \u201cthe dream of our people to have Apa State created will be realised.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am committed to it and I believe that creation of additional states would be in the interest of our people because development would be nearer to them.\u201d<\/p>\n

He requested for the support and cooperation of all in order to make his tenure as President of the Senate a huge success.<\/p>\n

Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State, who spoke through his Deputy, Stephen Lawani, said Senator Mark had brought fame and honour to the state, saying \u201cwe will do all we can to support him to succeed as the President of the Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
