Manchester City<\/a> have reportedly joined Chelsea<\/a> and Manchester United<\/a> in the fight to sign Tottenham<\/a>\u2019s star midfielder Luka Modric<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Modric has persistently been linked with moves away from the club and after Tottenham\u2019s failure to reach the Champions League next season it is thought that there will now be a scramble to sign a player who is in search of European football.<\/span><\/p>\n

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is a known admirer of the Croatian playmaker, though with Roberto Mancini reportedly ready to treble Modric\u2019s \u00a355,000-a-week-wages and Chelsea desperate for Champions League success, United could be priced out of a move for their long-term target.<\/span><\/p>\n

Manchester City will be able to offer the player Champions League football and are ready to tempt Tottenham into a deal by opening the inevitable biding war at \u00a330 million.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tottenham will be reluctant to lose such a key player, whom Harry Redknapp has previously described as \u2018irreplaceable\u2019, though any deal could hinge on Modric’s desire to play Champions League football next season.<\/span><\/p>\n

Modric has consistently refused to end the speculation about his future, leaving the door open for any suitors to move for him.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf there will be an offer which will be good for Tottenham and for me also, then a transfer is of course possible,\u201d Modric said in an article in The<\/em> Daily Mail<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI’m a Tottenham player and will be in London on July 7 to begin preparing for the season, but I want to say that transfers could occur later.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
