{"id":439136,"date":"2011-06-10T06:54:00","date_gmt":"2011-06-10T06:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/06\/10\/manchester-city-defender-kolo-toure-blames-club-doctor-over-drug-use-row\/"},"modified":"2011-06-10T06:54:00","modified_gmt":"2011-06-10T06:54:00","slug":"manchester-city-defender-kolo-toure-blames-club-doctor-over-drug-use-row","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/06\/10\/manchester-city-defender-kolo-toure-blames-club-doctor-over-drug-use-row\/","title":{"rendered":"Manchester City defender Kolo Toure blames club doctor over drug use row"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n<h3>By Andrew Kennedy<\/h3>\n<h4>10 Jun 2011 07:54:00<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n<div readability=\"95.2230368969\">\n<div readability=\"15.1509433962\">\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Kolo Toure, Manchester City (Getty Images)\" src=\"http:\/\/u.goal.com\/112800\/112856_news.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Kolo Toure, Manchester City (Getty Images)<\/p>\n<h4>Related Links<\/h4>\n<h4>Teams<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<p><span id=\"divAdnetKeyword\"\/><\/p>\n<p><span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.goal.com\/en-gb\/teams\/england\/109\/man-city\">Manchester City<\/a> centre-back <a href=\"http:\/\/www.goal.com\/en-gb\/people\/c%C3%B4te-divoire\/1167\/kolo-toure\">Kolo Toure<\/a> has re-ignited the row over his six-month suspension for testing positive for a banned substance, after it emerged he held the club doctor responsible for his misdemeanor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The 30-year-old insisted that he was informed by Jamie Butler, the club doctor, that the weight-loss tablets he was using were not in breach of any substance laws, a claims which both Butler and a FA panel refute.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Toure had traces of bendroflumethiazide in his system &#8211; a weight loss aid and a prohibited substance \u2013 which the Ivorian admitted to taking on February 11, the day before City&#8217;s 2-1 away defeat to Manchester United, but also claimed he checked if the substance was suitable with Butler on January 30.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The FA panel&#8217;s report concluded: \u201cToure\u2019s case was that he took the water tablets to reduce the size and appearance of his belly, flowing from his misplaced perception that he was fat, a symptom of a medical condition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cToure\u2019s recollection was that he gave that bag to the club doctor in the hotel restaurant that evening and asked him \u2018These supplements I take.
