An Abuja Magistrate Court yesterday convicted a 28-year-old male cook for stealing $700, 140 pounds and N4,000 belonging to his boss, Kehinde Favour.<\/p>\n
Amosu Henry of Sanyari Street, Wuse, was convicted for criminal trespass and theft, offences contrary to Sections 348 and 288 of the Penal Code.<\/p>\n
Prosecutor Francis Tanko told the court that on June 7, the nominal complainant reported at Wuse Police Station that the accused, who was her cook, trespassed into her room and stole foreign currencies and naira notes.<\/p>\n
He said N9,000 was recovered from the accused during police investigation and he admitted that it was part of the money he stole from house after converting it to naira.<\/p>\n
When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and told the court that he was deceived by someone to commit the crime.<\/p>\n
He explained in court that while he was searching for a carpenter to fix his madam\u2019s door on that fateful day, he met a young man holding a Bible who said he could repair the door.<\/p>\n
\u201cI took him inside the room and he told me that there is money in a safe as well as deceived me to bring it out,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He said that the man called a taxi driver and they took the money out to change, while the man disappeared into thin air later.<\/p>\n
The accused said in court that he never knew how he was pushed into committing the crime, adding that the man that tricked him did not give him a dime after the money was converted to naira.<\/p>\n
After listening the accused person\u2019s explanation, Magistrate Vera Tom Tukura convicted him and adjourned sentence to June 20.<\/p>\n
The magistrate deferred the sentence based on the prosecutor\u2019s application that the stolen money has not been recovered.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
