KADUNA -The National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, NPHCDA, said, yesterday, that it has so far deployed 3,500 midwives to 1,000 rural health facilities across 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).<\/p>\n

NPHCDA\u2019s Executive Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Ali Pate, who said this in Kaduna in an address\u00a0 at an orientation course for midwives under the Midwives Service Scheme (MSS), added that\u00a0 the move was to reduce maternal and infant mortality in the country.<\/p>\n

However, Pate said a new arrangement is in place for the posting of a fresh batch of 441 midwives who recently graduated from 25 schools of midwifery to various communities in the country under the MSS scheme.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaternal and newborn deaths are national tragedies, because every life lost negatively affects the nation\u2019s human capital.<\/p>\n

\u201cI also wish to reiterate that maternal and newborn deaths remain a national tragedy. Every Nigerian life lost is a loss to our dear nation\u2019s human capital,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
