Phil Jones<\/a> has revealed how following England’s top centre-backs has made him the confident player he is today.<\/p>\n

Jones is set to complete a \u00a316 million move to Old Trafford and the 19-year-old believes he is perfectly suited to the big stage, with his style of football matching the demands of the Premier League.<\/p>\n

The young Blackburn Rovers stopper has already been compared to current United defender Rio Ferdinand. Like Jones, Ferdinand played in midfield early in his career and has a reputation for being confident on the ball as well as confident taking it from opponents.<\/p>\n

Jones told The Sun<\/em>: “I think England is the best league for me, for my style of play. Hopefully, I can stay in the Premier League for my whole career.<\/p>\n

“I’ve always said I aspire to follow the likes of John Terry, Michael Dawson and Rio Ferdinand. I always watch what they do and try and learn from them.<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

“Defending isn’t just about tackling and heading, it’s also about getting the ball down and playing – starting the attack from the back.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones has already become a key part of Blackburn’s team, his absence coincided with their fall down the table and his return was seen as a key factor behind their Premier League survival.<\/span><\/p>\n

He stated: “I feel better than I did when I was playing well before the injury and I came back stronger and fitter than I ever was.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones is preparing to feature in the Under-21 European Championships in Denmark this summer, although his move to Old Trafford could see him competing for a senior place very soon, which is the player’s ambition.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I’m going away this summer with the Under-21s and that’s a massive honour for me to represent my country,” said Jones.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I really want to play for England’s senior team.”<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
