Residents of Nyahururu had thronged the area law courts where Hannah Wanjiru was expected to appear yesterday. She was arrested for storming a burial marking ceremony and triggering a fight. A source close to Nyahururu court indicated that she would be charged with creating disturbance in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.

Yesterday, Hannah was in a closed door meeting at Nyahururu DC Lucy Mulili’s office, with Nyandarua deputy OCPD Jacob Kanake and DCIO Isaac Onyango.

After the two hour meeting, she was served with a court order requiring her to attend the High Court in Nakuru for the hearing of a suit filed by Elijah Chebon, who claims to be Samuel’s father.

Chebon wants body tissue removed from Wanjiru’s body for a DNA test to prove his parentage. He also wants to be involved in the burial arrangements. Hannah left the office and changed cars to avoid the media.

The source said a separate charge of assault would be preferred against her later, since the complainant in the case, Paul Wanjohi, had not recorded a statement with the police.

Wanjohi who is still recuperating at Nyahururu’s Charity Medical Centre sustained serious injuries after he was hit with a panga and a plank of wood when chaos arose at Wanjiru’s intended gravesite at Gatimu village in Nyandarua West district.

Nyandarua Deputy OCPD Jacob Kanake promised to issue a statement after his meeting with Hannah, but changed his mind saying the issue is too sensitive.

Kanake was held hostage in his office by the media in Nyahururu pleading with him to at least say when the case would come up and the reasons for either dropping or suspending the charges in vain. The fate of Hannah’s friend and sister who were her co accused was also not established.

Unconfirmed reports indicated that the mother would be charged after the burial scheduled to take place on June 11. The chief government pathologist failed to release the postmortem results on Wednesday after he accused lawyers of stealing the show.

<fieldset>
<legend align="center">More News on allAfrica.com</legend>
</fieldset>

AllAfrica – All the Time

More here:
Police Fail to Charge Samuel Wanjiru’s Mother in Court

Nairobi Star (Nairobi) Wanjohi Gakio 7 June 2011 Police in Nyandarua yesterday failed to charge Olympic marathon champion Samuel Wanjiru’s mother in court.
