An Abuja Magistrate Court yesterday sentenced two men to one year\u2019s imprisonment each for snatching a handbag belonging to one Maryam Mohammed.<\/p>\n

Illiya Mohammed, 18 and Sani Yusuf, 19, were convicted for Joint acts and theft, offences contrary to Sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.<\/p>\n

Prosecutor Francis Udofia stated in court that on June 3, the complainant reported to the police that on the same day, the accused persons snatched a lady\u2019s handbag and immediately sped off on their motorcycle.<\/p>\n

He said other motorcyclists in the area chased the accused persons and eventually apprehended them along Nyanya\/Karu road, Abuja.<\/p>\n

When the charges were read to them, they pleaded guilty and begged for forgiveness.<\/p>\n

Chief Magistrate Ahmed Shuaibu sentenced each of them to one year imprisonment without fine option.<\/p>\n

He also ruled that the sentence handed down to the convicted persons should run concurrently.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
