{"id":437455,"date":"2011-06-07T13:24:12","date_gmt":"2011-06-07T13:24:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/06\/07\/hess-strikes-oil-offshore-ghana\/"},"modified":"2011-06-07T13:24:12","modified_gmt":"2011-06-07T13:24:12","slug":"hess-strikes-oil-offshore-ghana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/06\/07\/hess-strikes-oil-offshore-ghana\/","title":{"rendered":"Hess strikes oil offshore Ghana"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"69.8913467794\">\n<p>You Are Here: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ghanabusinessnews.com\">Home<\/a> \u00bb <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ghanabusinessnews.com\/category\/oil-and-gas\/\" title=\"View all posts in Oil &#038; Gas\" rel=\"category tag\">Oil &#038; Gas<\/a> \u00bb Hess strikes oil offshore Ghana<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span>Page last updated at Tuesday, June 7, 2011 13:13 PM \/\/ <\/span><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ghanabusinessnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Oil-Rig.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-20579\" title=\"Oil Rig\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanabusinessnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Oil-Rig.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"248\" height=\"210\" \/><\/a>New York based Hess Corporation, an oil and gas company has announced today June 7, 2011, that it has found significant oil and gas at its Paradise-1 exploration well offshore Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>The well is located at its Deepwater Tano Cape Three Points (DTCTP) license.<\/p>\n<p>According to Hess it has \u201cencountered an estimated 490 net feet of oil and gas condensate pay over three separate intervals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The company says the well was drilled to a total depth of 16,436 feet in a water depth of 6,038 feet.<\/p>\n<p>It says it will soon evaluate the well results and work with the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and the government of Ghana to plan future appraisal drilling.<\/p>\n<p>Hess has therefore, filed a \u2018Notice of Discovery\u2019 of the well with Ghana\u2019s Minister of Energy.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday April 28, 2011 Hess announced the discovery of 370 feet of hydrocarbons in two separate intervals at the Paradise prospect offshore Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>Hess has a 90% stake in the well with the remaining 10% held by the GNPC.<\/p>\n<p>British oil company, Tullow also announced the discovery of oil yesterday June 6, 2011 at the Banda-1 well offshore Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>Ghana became an oil producing country when commercial production of oil began in the country on December 15, 2010.
